Be Prepared For The Changes

As I was listening to the news this morning I heard a very frightening comment from one of the reporters regarding changes in Medicare coverage in the months and years to come. If Congress does not take a look at Medicare coverage in the near future and make it a priority, seniors are going to be left with fewer and fewer Medicare supplement providers that will accept Medicare because of the reduction of coverage. Essentially this means that doctors will only be able to take on a predetermined number of Medicare recipients into their practice so that they will not be losing money in the long run. And that’s a very disturbing statement for me as I enter my retirement years knowing that I will be on a fixed income. As I have done my research it seems to me that the most important thing that I need to think about regarding health care coverage will be how I’m going to supplement between what Medicare will cover and what my outgoing expense will be. Medicare gap insurance is designed to do just that, to bridge the gap between traditional Medicare and my personal responsibility.

Medicare supplement insurance plans are available to a retiree upon reaching the age of 65 as long as they are enrolled in both Medicare plans. A Medigap Ins policy can never be terminated as long as you make your monthly premium payments. The premium rates are based on the condition of your health and which planned you choose. There are number of plans that range from plan A through plan N. All of these plans are standardized, which means they are all the same regardless of which insurance carrier you choose to go through. The only difference will be the premiums that are charged by the carrier. For example, United healthcare supplemental insurance Plan A premiums may be different from Mutual of Omaha supplemental insurance Plan A for a variety of different reasons, all of which you need to look into to be sure that you are getting the best premium rate for the coverage you choose.

Once again based on the information that I heard this morning it seems as though getting Medicare supplements are going to be the best decision that you could make based on the changes that may be happening in the future with your traditional Medicare plans. If you call 1-800-MEDIGAP you will be connected to one of the trained professionals to help you with the decision regarding which supplement plan would be best for your particular situation and the condition of your health.
